convenience around tal of the dragon

When I was up that way in Nov. of 2009 I stayed at the Microtel in Robbinsville. The little place right across the parking lot was good food and great service, I think the name of it was "Our Daily Bread" or something like that. There is also a little diner up the hill that was good food. The only real downside to the town is nothing is open on a Sunday night, so you better stock up or be ready to eat McDonalds or gas station sandwiches.
We've stayed at the Microtel a couple of times and they're nice folks.
Restaurants, ice cream, fuel, laundry, supermarket, drug store, etc. within walking distance and an "indy" bike shop (or used to be) in town and another just outside of town.

In Robbinsville I hghly recommend the Phillips Motel. Owned by a sweet lady, second generation, ultra clean rooms, covered garage to park the bike under, space permitting. Call ahead for reservation if possible. Arrived late one evening, pouring rain, foggy, was going to eat and she said "Take my car Hon", it was a Mercedes coupe, nearly new! Now that is Southern Hospitality. Been staying with her for about 10 years, at least twice a year. Even furnishes towels to clean the bike with. Try it, you'll like it. PHHILLIPS MOTEL, 290 Main Street, PO Box 644, Robbinsville, NC 28771, 828-479-3370, Fax 828-479-8721

Just got back on Friday. We stayed in Maggie Valley. There are so many good roads around there. I personally thought that the dragon is overrated. There are many great curvy roads around there with a lot less traffic on them. We rode the Cherohala,Moonshiner 28, Diamonback,209,Blue Ridge,441 and the Dragon. Great time.

If you are looking to have a beer Robbinsville area is a dry county. Only place I found with a Bar in the area is the Fontana Dam Village. Otherwise you need to stay in Maggie Valley, Bryson City, Cherokee, or Tennesse, Gatlinburg etc. Walking distance to a Bar best bet would be Maggie Valley, they have many biker friendly Motels near Bars and Restaurants.

Microtel in Robbinsville. Bike parking out front, small buffet in morning and they even have towels by the front door to dry of your bike in the morning. Great staff and VERY biker friendly. BEWARE though Robbinsville is DRY so you would have to pack your liquor in. A AMAZING ride is take 19 out of Maggie Valley up to NC 209 called "The Rattler" up to Hot Springs. There they have the Iron Horse Station which has great grub and rooms to stay in. Cool little town but the ride up is really awesome.
