clutch adjustment
So I just got my bike running after working on it for the last month and I was thinking while I had it torn apart, I would adjust the clutch. I noticed when I reinstalled the clutch adjuster because my primary had to come off, that it was set so far outboard that I had to screw the adjuster screw in so it would clear the snap ring slot. So I did with the standard "half a turn out" procedure to the adjuster and tightened the clutch cable. Took it out today to ride to work and it was the first time out so I was prepared for some adjustments. I found the clutch is not fully engaging the farther down the road I got. I noticed by sitting at lights in rush hour traffic it was pulling forward and the engine was stressing among other tell tail signs. Anyway, at work I noticed the cable had loosened up a bit, which I can understand, so I will tighten it up on break and see if it helps. But MY QUESTION is, if the clutch cable tightening is not enough, could I possibly damage something If I have to resort to screwing in the adjuster screw in more to put more pressure on the push rod so that it engages the clutch out further? Thanks for your input

Loosen cable adjuster. Open primary and loosen lock nut. Turn out adjuster allen till you see that the snap ring is not touching the "clutch" Make sure there is a little gap or freeplay. Lock down lock nut, button up the primary and adjust the cable adjuster till you have an 1/8" gap between perch and ferral of clutch cable. Lock down adjuster. Take it for a spin and see what happens. You can always fine tune the cable adjuster and clutch lever to your liking.
