Cost to get cam tensioners checked.

Shoes are $63 each.... less if you order online .....
I replaced mine on my '05 at the 50k mark.... wear was good... could have gone longer, but why risk it?
I'll be replaceing them again this week end, as the bike turns a century....again, I can go further, but the cost of new shoes every 50,000 miles is very small.... compared to the damage I could get by "saving a few bucks"
Funny side note, when I picked up the shoes last week end... parts guy asked me "WHY are you replacing them?".. "are you hearing noise?.. " etc....
I just laughed at said the bike has 100k, and I want it to last another 100k...

If you need to pay someone to pull the cover and look, at your miles and especially the age, just replace them. Be sure to ask for the parts to check depth of their wear. They are probably brittle and may be your biggest worry at this age. Repeaded hot oil baths harden delrin. They will be an indicator of the RPM you turn (big wear factor) I doubt they would ever need to be replaced again on your bike.
