Default Gas Gauge, Sending Unit, BOTH??

Ok guys, my 08 EG Classic is having an issue. Gas gauge pinned on full all the time so I was thinking bad gauge. BUT, the reserve light comes on when there is still half a tank of gas??

When the reserve light comes on the count down (37 miles) to low fuel lasts for about 3 miles.

Should I replace the gas gauge or might it be the sending unit/float? Maybe both?

thanks

There are several things involved here! The level device inside the tank is a pretty basic item and it is easy to see that playing up; the gauge may have developed a fault; there may be a wiring problem between the two, such as a chafed wire, or loose connector. I suggest you start by looking at the easy stuff first, as many electrical problems are actually mechanical, such as loose connector, etc.
