Turncoat !!

Not only is a Road King an excellent around the town bike but also a damned fine tourer. I agree (of course) that it wins the "all around" award.

I couldn't imagine going back to a softail, or dyna. Great bikes in their own right, no doubt but, not as versatile, or comfortable to me.

I am 72 and have a Touring Bike even though I don't 'Tour'. I have had many Harleys starting back in the mid 60's with a Harley 125 or 165 (cant remember), have had Dyna, Softails, Road King, many Metrics in between and now my pride and Joy the 2009 Electra Glide Classic. I take short day trips, for instance yesterday about 150 miles round trip. It is a little harder now to lift the big bike off the stand but to me it is worth the effort. If it becomes too much of a problem to lift the bike off the stand at some point then I may consider going back to a Dyna, but I WILL continue to ride!

Like others have said, you shouldn't feel like you need to tour on a Road King. We don't "tour" on our Road King. We go on day trips and have a heckuva lot of fun just riding it around town or out in the rural areas. If touring is the only reason you're giving it up, you might want to reconsider. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide.
