Default Well Crap

Bought a fancy Derby cover and went out tonight to put it on. Pull out the instructions and start reading where 07 Touring models require the gasket to be thrown away and replaced with a new gasket. I didn't know that so I glance at my watch and it's past closing time for the local dealer. Darn it, guess it will have to be another day. Why don't they just package the gasket with the Derby cover?

No harm in reusing the gasket!

Re use the old gasket, it normally can be reused several times.

just another sneaky way to get some more of your money.
If the old gasket comes off in one piece looking good, wipe it clean and dry.
clean the primary case real good and reuse.
Just because I'm an old timer, I use a little of permatex high tack.
Seems to seal better. Easy to clean off later if needed as compared to some
of the other sealers.
Doing it this way you can probably pull the derby two or three more times to
refill primary oil.

...damn, never bought a new one, take mine off..wipe..reinstall..never a problem. Really a non-issue if it's not cracked or abused looking.

I know they say to replace when ever you remove the derby cover. I never have.
