H cam in the FLH, only a couple more horses but FLH is worth a lot more.

You may be able to figure it out by going to this website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harley-Davidson_FL

The FL designation began in 1941. Scroll down to Hydra Glide - 1955 is the first time I see the FLH designation. It talks about high compression heads and high lift cams, so maybe that's where the "H" comes from in FLH.

1965 was the first year they made the Electra Glide and the last year they made the panhead engine.

the wikipedia page is fairly accurate- some might argue that the U flathead did not use the same frame as the OHV motors...similar in having 2 down tubes, but many differences.

anyway the low compression motor was most often used for fleet use, sidecars, police parade duty etc.
The H would be ordered for a pursuit bike.

over the years many FL's would get a cam installed functionally becoming a FLh

the FLH may also have a trim package installed, this varies much by year.
the How to restore" book by Palmer is the bible on these matters.

out of print and copies can sell for hundreds

I'm on tour so away from my books
