Read a thread on here last year about tightening the shifters. People saying you have to really put a lot of torque on the hex bolt.
Because of using your foot (toe/heel), we generate alot of force and the splines are fine as opposed to coarse.
If they are not properly tightened the result is stripping the teeth off the spline.
Just throwing this out there for what its worth.
Your mileage can and will vary.

I grabbed one today at my local dealer for $15
Took 5 minutes to change' the old one was shot.
I suspect it was loose and I stripped it in New Hampshire a few weeks ago.
anyway, I knew there had to be a $20 alternative from the $89 option my Indy quoted me yesterday.
glad to have my heel shifter back.
