I after riding out a couple of blow outs I don't take chances with tires. If I look at it and say to my self that I am going to need a tire pretty soon, I get one then. With that said your tire looks like it has a 1k mile trip in it.

Did you go down with the blow outs?

No one has asked you, how many miles do you have on tire...this would give you a good idea about what percentage of tread you use per thousand miles..then you can make a more educated guess how much tread you would use and how safe it would be for you, not accounting for wet roads where worn tires are useless and unsafe. Jmo....and $1.00 will get you a cup of coffee.

The tire has just under 15000 miles on it.

Thank for all the replies and sorry I did not post the pictures at the beginning.

Luckily no; the first was a front tire two up around 70 and second was a rear two up pulling a trailer at about 75. I had pucker marks on the seats though.

Lots of valid thoughts here. We are getting ready to take a 2k mile trip on our 12 EG and the rear tire looks like yours. We have just over 14K on the tire. A friend pointed out something that I have not seen on here, how much extra weight are your going to be adding for the trip? For our trip it is going to be myself, my wife plus clothes etc.. (staying in hotels). Would it be nice to save the $$ until after the trip? HELL YEAH. But is my life and my wife's worth the piece of mind on a new tire? DOUBLE HELL YEAH !!!! Bike is going this week for a tire so it is one less thing for me to worry about. That is just my opinion. Safe travels.

Going on a 6.0 K trip, 2012 Electra Glide, just had rear tire changed at 11.5 K miles on it. Had 2/32 left to tread wear indicator, no way would I even think about starting on my trip even with that amount of tread left. I don't grind off at every red light or stop sign mostly interstate riding and for the life of me I don't know how some of the guys on the forum get as high as 15 K on a rear tire and still feel that it's safe to run it.

That tire looks like it still has a little life left in it. I would run it. Just take your time and slow down.
