and the dealer in miami ,of course, specifies 2,500 miles all liquids ,cost is $108.
I'll bet they do want you to change that often, at $108 a pop. The manual for the '07's sez engine @ 5k, primary @ 10k, and tranny @ 20k. I've been going 5/5/5k on my old RK, but I'll probably go with 5/5/10k on this new bike. The tranny probably doesn't even need to be changed at 10k, but that's only one quart per 10-12 months for me, and that will neither backrupt me nor take much extra time. The primary oil always looks grungy when drained at 5k, so I'll keep the 5k interval for it. As I said earlier, I've run tests that show the engine oil is okay at 5k intervals, but that was with my old RK. I'll stick with that on the SG without doing any more lab tests. The Evo RK ran a bit cooler, but that's not what's taxing my oil. It's the TBN.

Every 3 g's here. Go to autozone and get the filter with the nut on the end....sweet. Its a fram filter. Makes oil changes much easier.

If MOCO says you have to run their oil or warranty is voided, they must provide it. Look into Magnusen-Moss act 1975. If you would like to read the true skinny on oil go to this web site. I do warn you, this will change every perception of oil and oil manufacturing you might have. It will answer any questions youmight have also.I read this article years ago.

http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/

follow down left hand side of the pageuntil you see "All about oil." Take your time and enjoy. If you cannot be biased don't read.
Also read the article by Consumer Reports where they tested several Brand named oil's against non name brand in NYC taxi cabs.
Gutman, very interesting read ... thanks for keeping us in the loop and in the know.

Cheers,

If fram motorcycle filters are built like the ones for auto's I would never use a fram.
Very weak designed media spring to keep media sealed against flange to prevent unwanted bypass, paper end seals that leak by osmosis.
Nope I would do HDmoco, napa, wix, carquest, or others like v-twinetc, but not a fram.
just my .02

Changing oil lots in a air cooled engine is a cheap investment IMHO.

Mobil 1 Oil changes every 7500 miles with HD filter changes every 2500 miles and appropriate top offs with the new filter.

Based on the vast ammount of reading, I feel secure running it a little farther than most of you, knowing that I am having my oil cleaned better with more frequent filter changes, and the top offs adding someadditives back to the sump...plus my oil is cooled with an engine guard cooler.

Engine..........Red Line 20W50....................every 5000 miles or 1 year(whichever comes sooner).
Primary.........Red Line MTL.......................every 10000 miles or 2 years
Tranny..........Red Line Shockproof Heavy....every 10000 miles or 2 years

These oils meet and exceed the OEM, and the service intervals meet or shorten HD's recommended change intervals.
