yeah ,i do , but only because of the heat the engine generates . i do use synth.
but old habits are hard to break.

and the dealer in miami ,of course, specifies 2,500 miles all liquids ,cost is $108.

 

Every 2500 with syn oil, heat is the enemy and oil is the only protection. Miami gets hot, lots of stop and go traffic.

 

I grew up in the good old days (50's & 60's), changed oil religiously every 2000.
my 01 flhtci owners book says first at 1000 then next @ 2500 then 2500 thereafter
upto 50000 miles. I guess after that then what.....

My 06 flhtci owners manual says first to be at 1000 miles then 5000 miles
And every 5000 miles after that upto 50000.
When 1st got the 06 it had dyno in it, but dealer said HD had just switched to syn.
With syn you should be able to go 5k, depending on your driving conditions.
I usually use Valvoline durablend, better than dyno but not as pricey full syn.
Book says if you use anything other than HD materials and procedures you may void warranty.
Notice the IF and MAY.
But it does NOT say what type of fluid or viscosity(oil) is to be used.
I normally change mine at about 2500 to 3k depending on my driving condition during that service interval

 

I've been cofused by all by the info overload, but decided on Amsoil 20/50 all three holes, every 5000.

Scare tactics... just to keep you at the dealer....

 

Have NEVER used HD service products, and never had a warranty issue because of it.
Never seen it in their manual, But have been in auto /truck/equipment repair field 30 some years. All other brochures, say as long as the service items you use (filters, oils, plugs, etc)
meet or exceed the manufacturers specifications the warranty will NOT be voided because of their use in your vehicle.

I use Mobil V-Twin for oil, Shock-proof heavy for transmission, and MTL for the primary. The idea of same oil for all three holes never appealed to me. Just my opinion--that and .50 cents gets you coffee somewhere.

If MOCO says you have to run their oil or warranty is voided, they must provide it FREE of CHARGE. Look into Magnusen-Moss act 1975. If you would like to read the true skinny on oil go to this web site. I do warn you, this will change every perception of oil and oil manufacturing you might have. It will answer any questions youmight have also.I read this article years ago.
