Default My new (to me) 2004 Road King!

Picked this up today and WOW! I can't say enough about the difference from having had a softail before and stepping up to a touring bike. Within a minute of riding I was hooked.

It's a 2004 with only 2882 miles on it when I got it. A rich Dr. bought it and he did a bunch of things to it when he got it. It's got a Stage 2 Big Bore kit. Corbin touring seat with back rest. Some kind of aftermarket handlebars with heated grips. 2 into 1 exhaust with custom tune. Turns out the guy was too nervous riding it on highways and ended up parting with it. I paid only half what it was originally worth with all the extras. Couldn't beat the deal. It's been inspected and has already had the 5K mile service and it rides like a dream.

Few quick questions. How can I go about lowering the rear suspension? I know it's air shocks, but that's just to control the PSI not the height right? I'm 5'9 and I can touch the ground ok, but the width of the seat is a bit wide, and I think if I lowered the bike a bit I'd plant more securely and have more maneuverabilty when moving it back and forth manually. If I lower the rear do I also need to lower the front?

Also, I think I want some higher handlebars for my reach. I lean a bit forward now and I like to sit back with my feet in front of me. I'm thinking some 14s? Any suggestions? I'm thinking black.

Anyways, glad to have a bike again and be a part of the forums once again.

Very nice King...I wouldn't lower it, change out the seat if you need to.

That's a thought as well...

I wonder if Mean City Cycles could do anything with the Corbin seat I have.

Apparently it was a $500 seat. Wonder if they could move the riding position forward an ince or so while narrowing it out and scooping a bit.

Most dealerships have demo seats you can try. If you find one that you really like you could sell the corbin and you wouldn't be out much money.

Do you mind me asking what you paid for the king? I would love to have one but couldn't part with my dyna

If you do lower it, you have to change the rear shocks or put lowering blocks on. I'm 5'8", and I ended up with 11.5" Progressive 212 shocks (shorter than i needed) and heritage style bars so the bike would fit me. The 212's are Progressive's low-end shock, but they ride better than my stock shocks (only my opinion, of course)

It was $11,250. I have all the original paperwork from when the original owner bought it. It was over $18K and has over $5K in extras with parts/labor.

With only 2882 miles and it just had the 5K service...I think I got a very good deal.

Stock heritage bars is the ticket, you don't have to add more wiring
also check up on a good stabilizer if it doesn't have one. You picked
up one fine machine Shockwave.
