Actually i paid more for the K&N because of the company's reputation and the thought of it being a premium filter. I will probably use it because I already have it. The bike doesn't care but just the principle of it all. I know every vehicle manufactured in the US has some imported parts. Nothing is 100%. They even started puting the percentage of American made components on the sticker of some new cars. We have 2 Michagan built Fords in our garage and they have foriegn parts in them just like Harley has in their bikes.
And yes I didn't respond earlier because I would rather be out riding too.

Default K+N Filters

I work for the company that used to make K+N oil filters, they were made in Albion, IL. K+N has moved this business to Korea making the filter less efficienct in the process. We still make oil filters in the USA.

That explains why the last two I used the gasket ring would fall off of it?

In Korea, are they vertical or horizontal?

Rest assured, thanks to K&N and other companies outsourcing their products to "low wage countries" keeps the profits up and the investors happy. Your pension fund is most likely one of those investors.

Was it in a K&N box? According to K&N's web site "Never Replace Your Air Filter Again Handmade in the USA and in the United Kingdom using only the finest materials, K&N OE Replacement Air Filters are washable and reusable." Also, "K&N is headquartered in Riverside, California in a complex of 10 buildings comprising nearly 400,000 square feet. K&N also operates facilities in England and the Netherlands. K&N facilities includes engineering, product design, manufacturing, warehousing, test facilities, purchasing, sales, customer service, marketing, and corporate offices." So unless Korea is now part of the US, UK or netherhlands, either K&N is lying or JP sent you one of the many look alike filters.

Like many of you have, I've spent a great deal of money on Genuine Harley accessories for my R.K. and my wifes Sportster 1200C over the years. I dont have an exact figure for my bike but hers is over $5000.00 and I know mine is over $10000.00 which aint hard to do with Harley's prices. This does not include helmets, riding leather, boots, gloves, glasses, radios, etc. Seems like just about everything you buy is $100.00. Every accessory had Made in China on the package, it was pretty sickening. It's not right, an American made motorcycle with everything on it Made in China.
