Starts, idles, no throttle, engine light
Went out for lunch on my 2011 Road glide custom was doing about 60 when it just didn't feel right. Realized there was no response when twisting the throttle so I coasted to the shoulder, bike was idling fine but when I turned the throttle best I could get out of it was 500 rpm over idle. I shut it down and restarted it about 5 times and the same thing, started fine no throttle response and check engine light stayed on. Made a few phone calls to see if a buddy could bring a trailer and figured I'd try one more time before calling a tow truck. Fired right up and ran fine so I booked home and put it in the garage. I was planning on putting it in the shop to have it looked over at the end of the month before Sturgis but will be doing it sooner now. I'm fine if something just plain breaks and is replaced but when it just fixes itself that's what worries me. A little bit about the bike, I bought it back in Nov with 14k on it and put about another 1k on it since then with no issues. My fear of taking it to the dealer is since it's not happening anymore they may tell me everything is fine and then it happens again out in the middle of nowhere. Any ideas on what it might be are much appreciated.

It set a code for sure when the light came on. Your repeat starts let it run and it did not detect a problem but it should have store it. I would let them look at or at least read the error codes. My 04 is easy to read, and I have both service manuals but yours is different. The TBY system has a couple fail safes built into the system. If it gets lost, it would error like that but it could be something else too. I think you system is prone to idle loss issues that may even be in owners manual. Deeper will require electrical service manual.

The same thing happened to my 09 Classic back in april,it is a common issue. The connector on the side of the throttle body, behind the breather, gets dirty, damp etc...When it happened to me I removed the connector and reseated it a couple times and it got me mobile. When I got home I gently cleaned up the pins with some contact cleaner and cleared the codes,no problem since.

My Limited did that when it was a few months old. It is the connector behind the air cleaner, the pins have fretting or the throttle twist grip sensor. Dealer replaced the pins on the connector behind the air cleaner and put a new twist grip sensor on, not a problem since. When you check the codes its gonna point to the TCA (throttle control actuator) codes 11 something. I would pull that connector and see if its corroded, try to clean it with contact cleaner and see if it clears up. I would still check the codes and google what they mean, or tell us what they are, someone has been thru whatever code it may show. Good luck man.

Thanks for the help guys. I am leaning towards the connector at this point. I rode into work this morning and it happened again. I took the connector and slid it back and forth a couple of times to see if I could get a good connection and it fired right up and ran fine. Didn't have time to clean the connector last night but will be getting into cleaning and putting dielectric grease on it to see if that cure the problem.
