Default Dropped the bike... Kinda...

OMG I was pissed at myself! Rode up to the right side of a pump to shoot some gas in the tank of my SG. Didn't realize there was a slope in the pavement. Kicked down the jiffy stand and got off the bike to go swipe the debit card when I heard "CRASH" behind me. Turned around to see the scoot rocking on the crash guard. Fortunately the damage is minimal. A scrape on the bottom of the right bag and some chips in the paint on the lower rear corner of the front fender. Chrome scrapes are hardly noticeable... I did let out a few choice profanities and stood the bike up but was in a bit of shock... Stood there like a ****** trying to figure out what happened; if the stand didn't settle right or if there was a previously unseen rock under it or something. All I could figure is that it was just enough slope to stand the bike up too far. From now on, I am going to be way more careful about checking the stability of the bike before I do "off bike" activities! I am sure it has been said before but just thought I would share the error in my ways in hopes of preventing someone else from suffering the same fate.

Same thing happened to me, but in my driveway. Think I might have screamed like a 7 yr. old girl when it happened can't remember. Only damage was a small scuff on the bottom of the left bag. Gives you kind of a sick feeling don't it?

So you put it on the kick stand and it fell over to the right? Anyway, welcome to the club of those who have dropped our bikes. Dropped my sporty twice, once in the garage, luckily it leaned against the tool box so it didnt go over that far and the other time I was out in the front yard drinkin riding it in flip flops, stopped, flipflop slipped on wet grass over it went to the left. Got it picked up, was about to put the kickstand down I tilted it just past upright and down it went again to the right this time. Lesson learned, never putt around in the yard on your new sporty while you are drinking and wearing flip flops (stupid I know, lol) No damage either time, was lucky.

The kickstand on my EG always worries me as it allows the bike to move forward quit a bit once it's placed down. Asked the dealer he said it is normal. Makes me nervous every time I get off it though that she is going down.

I dropped mine for the first time just a few days ago. Right in front of the diner with a nice audience Pulling into park had the front wheel turned to the right to loop around going very slow and hit that front brake...plop..down she went. No damage at all though so I was lucky. Welcome to the club!

Yep....I will sometimes help out on the dealer's demo day and we always caution people riding the bikes that when they are on a touring model and doing a slow right turn, do not grab that front brake...cause the bike is going down (and always does since most of the time these are people who haven't ridden HD's much). Unfortunately seen it happen more than a few times and those folks have to pay for the damage...and we all know how much that can come out to be. Dealer does remove the bags for demo day...but still have the fairing, etc. Most of the time it happens in the parking lot when they return from their trial ride.

I always look down to verify that the jiffy stand locking tab is engaging with the slot when leaning the bike over onto the stand. When it's locked, the only way the bike is going to fall to the left is if the stand sinks into soft stuff or the stand breaks.

1. Don't get off your ride to gas up.
Pull closer to the pump. That way you can still use your swipe card.
That way you can put more gas in as the bike will be level.

2. Were you stationed along time in the UK or do you just like sayin' the word "******"?

3. Does it make you feel better now that you've told us that you "kinda dropped the bike"?
