Default Rain and the windshield

My 6 hour trip turned in to 9.5 hours this pass week and I traveled in tropical storm rains for 8.5 of my trip. Almost impossible to see the tail lights in front of me. What can you do to keep the rain moving off the windshield? There just is not enough slant on the windshield for water to run off.

Look over the windshield. Rain repellent will make the water bead and disperse, but once it gets dirty it doesn't run off as well.

To be honest, rain does not bother me unless it is the torrential down pour. Most of the time it's the spray off other vehicles and semi-trucks that blinds me. It seems like a vehicle will get two to three car length past me and then cut over and blind me with the spray of there tires.

I've never tried this but I read it here on the Forum. Measure and cut a section of Chrome Auto Door Protector and fit it around your windshield. You can buy it at any auto parts store. Worth a try????

The best setup for riding in the rain is to have a windshield that you can look over.
I look over the windshield and wear a full face helmet with a Pinlock visor.

This works well, up to the point that the Pinlock starts fogging. I got caught in Tropical Storm Andrea last Friday, and the last 2 hours of my ride were hell. Pouring rain, high winds, and totally dark out. I would have been better off on a Jet Ski.

Light to medium rain, FF with a Pinlock works great. Heavy rain like last week, a motel room would have been a good choice.

I've been caught in a few very heavy and sustained rainstorms. In that situation you don't ever want to be looking through the windshield and you won't be - instinctively you'll be cranning to see over it, same at night and dealing with glare. Windshield height matters IMO.

Check your w/s instructions, but I've always kept some RainX wipes in the bags for bouts with rain. Haven't gunked a shield yet...
