When you say lost your throttle, what exactly is happening, or not happening?

Is the bike hot or cold when this happens?

More details are needed.

I know exactly where it is...

Right where the person who had it in his hand last laid it down!

Since you have an '09, I think harleycharlie1992's post is going to be the solution you need. When you describe "you lost the throttle" I think you mean the bike went into its "limp mode" where it'll go along at around 17-20 mph regardless of where you have the throttle.

There is a technical service bulletin related to fretting of the connection pins (TT-418) on the throttle position sensor connection, which especially affects our '09 bikes with its throttle-by-wire. I ride mine rain or shine as a commuter to work, and think that's what caused my problem (moisture + vibration).

Look behind the air cleaner at roughly "8:00" and you'll find a connection about the size of a Hot Wheels car. The push-pin that secures it is behind the connection. Remove and reconnect that connection a half-dozen times or so to try to scrape off any corrosion. Then go to your local auto parts house and get a small thing of dielectric grease. It'll be about the size of a fast-food restaurant ketchup container. Slather that connection with dielectric grease as well as the pins. Reconnect the connection and fire it up.

The "real fix" is a $185 replacement of the pins with gold-plated pins. The solution described above costs you roughly $1.20 with tax. So far it's working just fine, but I haven't been riding it more than a couple thousand miles since applying the dielectric grease, so it may not be a permanent fix. I'll try the cheap solution first, though!

Try that to at least rule it out -- the "limp mode" is a situation that has bit a lot of us. It's a little scary to be moving along in traffic at speed and have the bike decelerate to 17-20 in just a couple of seconds. I wish HD would fix this as a safety issue recall rather than a technical service bulletin.

Hope this helps,
'fooz

I had my pins replaced probably 6000 miles ago, and lo and behold, going about 75 on the highway, and it goes into limp mode. Money well spent I would say.
