Default Arlen Ness shift linkage help

I installed a Ness shift linkage, and now it's so stiff my heel/toe shift levers are not "bouncing" back. I expected a little stiffness, but there is no play at all at the joints. I almost have to use both hands to move anything at this point. I loosened it, and it seemed to sloppy at the joints

When I up or down shift I have to push the levers back or it won't shift to the next gear.

This is what I installed:

Anyone else use this one?

I have that same shifter. Been installed for almost a year with no issues on my UltraClassic. I cant see where the shifter linkage would be an issue. Is the year/model correct length wise? Maybe remove and put it back on again.

iglide, do you recall placement of the chrome washers?

"wave washer on back side and chrome washer on top" is what instructions state.

did you place the chrome washers on top of the wave washer on the back side?

thanks.

Have the same piece, and no issues. I agree with Pitbull2411, make sure the wave washer and spacers are installed in the correct order.

Never mind, I figured it out. Lesson learned, torque to specs.

I just put this part in my softail and halfway on a ride experienced the same problem that progressively got worse. What was the problem you found and the fix ?

I agree with the others ... Put the linkage just like they say for your model, and make sure the washers are in the right order.

Mine is a noticeably crisper shift than stock. Not binding, just a direct "click".

BTW OP, nice paint!

I installed three times, but ended up throwing it in the parts pile.

Unfortunately I can not help with a solution.

Good luck.

I will never purchase an Arlen Ness accessory. Tried to call them before making a purchase (twice) and they never called me back. There are other better options out there...in my opinion.
