Default LED 3157 in the tail light

Put one in today as a direct replacement for the stock bulb. I have CD turn sigs, I didnt want to blow $150 on a BAL if I didnt have to. The stock bulb is of course way duller than the CD sigs.

Looks like as a running light its not much brighter than stock, but when the brake light is on it does appear much brighter.

Not a bad $20 mod.

Has anyone else done this?

I have not, but I'm curious who sells the BAL for $150? I've got a previous generation CD light that has lost a few LEDs on the board and was thinking about going the BAL route...

Good on you for the $20 mod though.

Here's the specific LED I'm referring to if anyone wants to try it:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...led-tower/633/

Actually, the one I got was http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...led-tower/802/, now I think there's a brighter one (the one above)

DARN

Update on this if anyone cares - I tested the lights, they're fine, about the same as a running light, and much brighter when the brake is on vs the bulb.

I called superbrightleds.com, that other one is in fact 2X brighter, so I'll be returning the one I have and the other is on the way.

Plug N Play, or did you need to install anything else (e.g. resistor)?

It just replaces the stock bulb.

By itself it would not require a load equalizer but I have one because I my front and rear turn signals are LEDs too.

I also bought the LED 3157 lamp for a replacement for my stock bulb.
I bought the Super Bright 18 LED bulb. Works great and only $17.95.

The tail light LED is just a Plug-N-Play. But make sure it is Red.
I replaced the turn signals with the CD units. They require a Load Equalizer.
So I bought the Badlands Run/Brake/Tail Illuminator. It included the equalizer.

The brake is much brighter. The photos do not give it justice.
