Went to the dealer to finalize the sale and.....

RE: Went to the dealer to finalize the sale and.....
I have had a 1994 RK, a 1998 RKC and a 2001 RKC. Both bikes sound great if it were me I would go with the 1996. The evo has been around for a long time trouble free, it has less miles on the clock and I am not very happy with an “overhaul” on the newer one. You just don’t know how it was done. You can do a lot with the extra $2000 even buy leather bags for around town this gives you the best of both worlds in looks.
I believe that the MOCO had a few problems with the 1999 and 2000 touring, maybe some one on hear remembers.
Just my 2 cents...
Buy the one that keeps you up at night thinking about it.
Both a good choice, good luck. WELCOME from OHIO.
Come on spring.

I don't know you and have never met you but I can tell one thing, you think alot and analyze things the same way I do. I can tell by your post that your heart is with the 96. SoI honestly think that if you do not buy the 96 you are going to always wish you had! Good luck, I think you have already made up your mind.

TattooYoo, You already picked it, the '96, re-read your post!
Newer IS NOT ALWAYS better, I know several guys with evos that have over 100,000 miles on them without having any real problems or having to rebuild them, I had a '00 RK Classic that I bought new, fuel injection is great, (and I think the MoCo finally got it right on the new bikes), until it breaks...... the MM injection
gave me fits after 18k miles, after spending too much $ trying to fix it, F' it, I traded it for a new '06 RK with a carb. problems solved.......
HD dumped Magnetti Marelli injection for Delphi, (a "clue").
If the '00 was carbureted, I would get it, but it aint......
so get the carb bike, you will have no electronics problems with it, and no dealing with ecm's, fuel maps, ignition maps, and a plethora of other electronic crap that will eventually screw up. if you want to change pipes or cams etc, it's a simple mixture screw adjustment and maybe a jet change. Oh, and my Dad's '62 Pan still runs just fine with it's carburetor, I don't know if all these injected bikes will able to say that in 45 years! besides, it has the seat you want!!!!! and the 2 grand will buy a lot of tires and gas and a new cam that will wake up that Evo!
All this is, of course, just my opinion and experience with the bike I had, buy the bike that fits you the best
Good luck,
K.
ps, if you tour or go on week long trips, you will like the hard bags better... at least I do.

I had a 1996 Dyna Wide Glide--sold last June for upcoming2007 Ultra..bike & engine were faultless over 10 years except for base gasketsthat went in third year. This was covered by HD under policy adjustment as bike was out of warranty. Did a V&H Pro pipe, Andrews 27 cam, Mikuni 42 mm in first year and she was sweet...I am an EVO kind of guy..like the simpler things...just change the oils and filters regualrly..you didn't mention price..the 1996 sb $8,000 - $9,000
