Default The Official '09+ seat on an '08 thread.

The inspiration for this thread was a for sale thread where a guy with an '08 bought a Corbin seat for an '09+ and had fitment issues and there was some speculation as to why it didn't work and what would work so I decided to try to document it one handy place with all of your help.

So....please post the following information if you are using an '09+ seat on an '08 model:

What model bike?
What seat?

I will add the information to the OP as it comes in. Thanks in advance to all who participate so we can put the speculation as to what works and what doesn't to rest.

What model bike? 2008 Streetglide
What seat? Stock Seat from a 2013, 52164-10

The frames are different. The 09 frame is wider.

But the 08 has the 6 gal tank and the same frame tab as the 09. Just looking at the HD wishbook and the majority of their seats are listed 08 and up. However a few seats (double hammock, some reduced reach seat) say for 09 and up so there has to be some difference. I have used the 08 and up Sundowner in SG stitching on both my 08 SG and 08 Ultra.

A newer seat will not fit an 08. I tried several on my ultra. They seemed to hit the ECM

I had an MCC modified seat on my '08 FLHRC. I then bought an '09 FLHRC and the seat fit perfect, no problems

I can now say definitely that an 09+ Corbin Dual Tour will not work on an 08.

I also noticed that there is a female slot on the stock HD seat and on the corbin it was a metal male tab. Someone in one of the threads I read said they simply removed the front metal part on the seat and it fit...tried it...still hit the ECM.

When the '09 "Low" seat for the Ultra came out I tried one on my '08. It wouldn't go down in the rear far enough to get the screw in. I have since heard that they will work. I haven't tried it but sure would like to know what changed.

How is that one working out for you?

I'm guessing that most HD seats are compatible. I would bet that Mustangs would as well based on what I know of their seat pan designs. Any really low profile seat I think would run into ecm clearance issues.
