Expensive vacation-HD rentals
I was in Arizona for the Memorial Weekend and decided to rent an Electraglide Ultra Classic from HD of Scottsdale. I currently ride a RKC and always thought an Electraglide would be too big, bulky and given my 29 inch inseam too tall.
I took off and rode to Wickenburg, up though the mountains on HWY 89 to Prescott and back on HWY 17. It was a beautiful day and I was amazed how well the bike handled. IMHO, no different than the RK. Loved the extra storage in the tourpak and the hard bags, and the wife was thrilled with the full backrest on the tourpak and the cushy seat.
The only downside is it was a stock bike and between the 90 degree temperatures and the CAT, you could bake a chicken on the right side. I would want a Stage 1 before it left the shop.
So, I have determined I gotta get me one of these and have started the shopping and analysis. Looks like I have to work a little longer to pay for a new bike.

Get a pre-cat model and you're golden.
If you ever get the opportunity again be sure to take 89A through Jerome and on up to Sedona. That road allows no trucks and limited motor homes because of the tight curves. A great road for bikes leading to a hippy town on the side of a mountain (Jerome).

Its more than just the tourpak. I also really liked the hard bags, the fairing and the lowers. In addition the seat was better by an order of magnitude. If I did all that to my RKC, it would be putting a lot of money into the Road King with no hope of getting it back. Plus, I get to buy a new motorcycle with the wife's blessing. I don't drink, smoke or chase wild women so this is my one vice to **** money away on.
Maybe not smart, but sure as hell fun.

the bikes are all the same but for the radio and plastic hanging off them.
This sounds to me like Spud is selling his wife on a new bike!

That's always a hard sell, unless they have the bike bug as we do......my wife does and has had her eye on a Heritage for some time now

Now, if you start wearing those tennis-ball green shoes and helmet I might have to point and giggle............. but I'd still ride with you.
