Default Help with hardbag bars

Wife is having a hell of a time with the hardbag bars on our Ultra. The bars dig in to her legs too much for her. I was wondering if I can take them off completely? I know Harley has a set of comfort bars but I just don't want to go that way if I just could remove them all together.

You can remove them, but you'll have no protection for your bags if you drop the bike. I think you'll also need to buy the adapter for the hardbag support rail. You can also buy adjustable pegs or spacers to raise the passenger foot boards some. I opted for the comfort bars and had them power-coated black.

You can remove them all together and replace the bag suport bar with one like is on the StreetGlide. I believe the part is listed in the HD catalog.

The RoadKing Custom...several CVO baggers use the same support.

I'f I bought another RoadKing, it would be one of the 1st things done when the bike got home to my garage.

Larry,

Does the chrome bar show on the outside of the hardbag? Does it still provide protection?

you see a litle bit at the bottom where it turns into the frame for the bolt up. and provides support only...no protection. like the StreetGlide.

They make them for the older bikes, just might not be in the catalog anymore.
Try Ebay
Here's a used set

If you buy the low profile guards, you will need a set of these.

If you take them off, you have to remove the side rails on your saddlebags as well (looking at your signature photo). IMO it's easier and cheaper to modify the passenger footrests. There are options for moving the ones you have and/or adding extenders.

I'd be leery about having no saddlebag protection. But I understand it's your ride, not mine. Just saying.....

Good luck, and ride safe.

Wife had the same problem on my 08 Ultra. Got a set of the Rick Doss bars off Ebay for about $40. Also raised the floorboards to the top position.
