Default Checked My Cam Tensioners......

Well on my day off I decided that I would spend the afternoon inspecting the cam shoes. My 2006 SG has 29,300 miles on it. Got it with 27k. Previous owner said he ran syn3 and Amsoil I believe. I just did first oil change on it sense owning it to Mobil 1. Just in case anyone cared lol. So after taking off my entire rhinehart pipe and boy that was fun not lol and the 10 cam cover bolts the cover would not budge. So rubber mallet time still won't budge. Some wd40 did the trick. Here's what I found inside.......

Not bad at all looks really good and chain was smooth.

Here's the back one kinda hard to see but looks good only has some small grooves in it.

So I should by all logic be good for another 30,000 miles. Just wanted to share my miles and wear. Looks like I'm not selling this one and getting a new SG just yet

They look good. But if I were that far in to the cam chest, I'd change'em and be done for another 30k.

Mine looked pretty much like that when I checked them at 29k and I thought I'd let them go for a while longer. BUT then because of another concern, I decided to go ahead and tear it down and do the cam plate update, cams, etc. and man am I glad I did!!! Here is what the inner tensioner looked like once taken apart.

So what bikes have this issue and has it been fixed on any newer bikes?

I believe 2007 is when HD changed to the new cam plate.

Sounds like you've described 4 alternatives:
1- button up and ride another 10-20k;
2- change shoes, do reg mtc and ride another 20-30k; or
3- upgrade the cam plate; or
4- buy a new cam set-up attached to a newer bike.

I pick 1 or 2 and flip a coin.... spend the money on something else....
