Agreed, check the packing, then see about quieter baffles from V&H.

I took out the fiberglass because I thought they were too quiet. Airflow around you (windshield) and helmet choice will also make a difference. We wear earplugs anyway and still hear the music.

I had a set of MRs on for a few weeks. They weren't to loud, but too boomie for me.They became very earitating after a few hundred miles.I sold them and replaced them with 4"Rineharts.I find them to be as loud but not as boomie, just a nice low rumble.

There are so many choices out there. I went with the Pythons and have been happy with them. Plenty of character without excessive noise. iMO of course!

Which SE are they? Are you interested in trading for the MR's? Thanks for the replies. Funny thing is I was wearing earplugs, behind the stock UC windshield. I just want to turn down the volume! I cannot find quiet baffles for MR's. Fuel Moto says they don't have them as a SKU. Only quiet option comes with the Ovals...

I put on the S&S Quiet Tour Mufflers w/ V&H Bagger Duals....Perfect for me. I wanted to be able to listen to the radio and talk with the wife. Sounds like Harley of old.

I just replaced my Ovals for the MR'S and love them. I also have Dresser Duals and 222 cams and love the deep sound. They are much quieter than the ovals. I understand what you mean about being boomy but I kind of like the sound. You may be able to remove the baffles and wrap more packing around them and quiet them some more

I don't have those pipes, but have never had trouble with exhaust hurting my ears. Like previously stated, after 300 miles, it's more than likely the wind that bothers you. I lost my hearing for 3 days in my right ear after riding about 450 miles one day with a half helmet. I use earplugs of some sort when I plan on 300+ mile trips.

I have Monster Ovals on my '03 and like the sound. Purchased Monster Rounds for my Limited and they seem too quiet. It seems the ovals got louder as they got older. Hope the rounds do the same as they are almost as quiet as stock.

I could not stand to ride with a 3/4 helmet with the Monster Rounds, half helmet no problem.
Something about the sound resonating inside the helmet, it was worse with ear plugs inside the 3/4 helmet too.
I've had lots of different mufflers and this was the only one that would do that.
