Default Inner Primary Bearing Replacement How-To

Been searching this forum and many others to find some instructions, video of how to replace the inner primary bearing/race. I have a service manual and have read that. Just would like to see a video or pics with instructions as well.

Looking for a 2008+ touring model

any suggestions or comments?

You've got the service manual, just jump in there and tackle it! It's not that hard. Everything you need is spelled out for you. It would help to have a small Arbor press available. Go ahead, you'll be surprised how simple a job it really is.

Not sure what an arbor press will do but you will probably want to get an inner race bearing installer tool.

The IPB is a complete bearing, it has no seperate race. You need a Arbor press and a spacer of sorts to apply the force onto the outer race of the bearing when you press it back in. Use the Arbor press to press the old one out as well. Just make sure when you put the snap ring back in, that you don't cover the small oil hole that allows oil to get to the bearing.

You can cut the race off with a Dremel if done carefully. I've done it that way before.

What race are you talking about?? He wants to change his IPB. I'm sure your starting to scare the living s**t out of him by now. It's a cut and dried SIMPLE job. No special tools or skills required.

+1 I like the reinforced dremel cut off disc. The race is very hard (brittle)
and there is no need to cut too deep.

I agree with the OP, would be great to see pics of these tools in action.

Not sure which one you are talking about. The IPB is sure enough an outer race with the rollers visible. It comes off with the inner primary. The inner race will be on the mainshaft and can be pulled with a special tool or cut.
