I changed mine to the new material, made by Cyco Gaskets. Only way to do it right is take out the cams.

I went with the adjustable pushrods; no sense in pulling the top off.

Put your ear to the cam chest, you may hear something, however, there's no telling when the old tensioners will come apart.

I have had tensioners go on 2 motors, and I couldn't hear or feel anything out of the ordinary.

I just hit 37,000 and it was bugging me. Knew I would think about it all summer. No indications, but outer was fine, inner was toast!
Glad I checked when I did. Hydraulics and a 203 cam now......

No warning signs. Must inspect and replace as necessary.

The Inner is the one that fails first from what I hear, once you are in there it seems that that changing them would make sense, and give you piece of mind! I went with gear drive so I will never ever have to wory about this issue ever again but mine is an 01 with the Timkin bearings so crank play is not an issue, also the drag that the chain/tentioner cause rob HP

I ran mine all the way to 72K. At 55K they looked fine, but when I decided to rebuild, the Inner shoe was cracked... Here are pics

Yep, if you hear anything out of the ordinary from the cam chest it's already too late.

cheers

This says it all. If you hear a noise, it is money you have already lost.
