Default Looking for friendly advice, sell Fatboy Lo to get bagger????

Hello all, I am a having a bit of a personal dilemma. For some reason when I was at my local HD dealer I test rode the Road Glide custom and the Street Glide(bad idea I know) I love both of them, but I am leaning more to the Street Glide just because the old school styling it has. Well my problem is I have a Fatboy Lo that I love but I dont have the bags and although I have air ride on it, its not as comfortable as the touring models, and my girl cant really ride on the back (heartland kit), unless I buy one of those super expensive heartland second seat.

I have dumped all sorts of money to make it one of a kind: DNA wheels, heartland kit, custom pinstriping, air ride, apes, blacked out the whole nine. I am contemplating selling privately or on consignment.

I know, I know, I am dummy for spending all sorts of money on upgrades and in the end I am not really satisfied. I just wanted to get opinions from different people, I am thick skinned so I could take constructive critisism. Do I just hold on to my bike and tough it out and call it a day, or sell it try to recoup some money and get a bagger. Thanks guys in advance.

Ive been there and can tell you that IMO if a bagger is what you want no amount of $ will make a softail into a bagger without some compromise. The handling and ride of my Road Glide at any speed from parking lot, freeway to canyons is far away better than my softail ever was, and if you are talking about adding a passenger the touring line models are even better . With ABS, stereo, and cruise its a breeze to ride a few miles to run errands or all day and knock out 400-500 miles

I went the same route as you had a 05 Fatboy, added cams, tuner, pipes, detachable touring stuff like saddle bags, windshield, fairing, hwy pegs after $4000.00 in mods (pictures below) it still did not do what a stock touring bike could do or ride and handle like one

Bottom line is if you want a touring bike buy one because a modified softail is a nice compromise but it will never be a touring line bike.

Tough call. But if it's a bagger you want, then the Lo will never satisfy. I went from a tricked out FB to a SG and couldn't be happier. I miss the fatboy sometimes, but it didn't get ridden enough to justify keeping it.

However, yours sounds mighty nice. It would be kewel if you could keep them both.

Can I see a picture of your loboy with the Heartland kit? I just ordered it for my loboy 2-5-0 kit.

I just bought a Road Glide, so I know your dilemmna. However, with that being said, I would never ride my Fatboy Lo over the Road King I currently have.

You can put Bags on the Lo with a Sundowner seat, and you can even add a tour pack.
It will still be a Soft tail that is totally yours, or get the Street Glide and enjoy a new bike.
By the way someone on the Forum might buy your Fatboy Lo.

You have to decide if it is more important to keep the Lo or to take the woman.

I kept my softail and bought a clean used RG so I have both. It would kill me to sell my softie and I can now tote the warden when she wants to go! Good luck!

Thanks guys, yeah I should of listened to my friend when he told me to get a bagger right off the bat. My bike is a great hopper but I am more interested, at this point, in puting miles and riding medium to long trips on weekends and what not. My back was kiling me on my bike after a little cruise I took, that is not good. I wish I could have both, if I did not have a car payment I probably would lol. Anyhow here is a pic of my bike as it sits:

1. Try to sell it as is first, on this site, or ebay for a buy it now price.
Ya never know? It is that time of year when people are looking for a bike.

Basically you have to find someone who has your tastes and is willing to give you a fair price for it. You will lose some $$$ on this though, but it wouldn't be as bad as a trade.

2. Try to get your bike back to as stock as possible and sell your add ons for as much $$$ as you can get for them.

Any idea of what a fair value would be on this bike, 13 Fatboy Lo with 500 miles, it has 10K worth in add ons (I know I would not get most of that back). Most dealers aronud here (SoCal) would love to have it on consigmnet, but most charge a flat 2k fee or 10% of the sale. As for returning it back to stock, no can do, sold most of the stock parts

Thats what I would do and then try to trade it in...it will either work for you or you will have to sell it privately...but you will get at least 50% of your upgrade money back which is more then you will get for it on the bike
