Zumo 665 listening to XM with turn by turn directions
Did quite a bit of reading before I bought my Zumo 665 and one of the biggest complaints I read about was not having turn by turn directions come through the speakers or headsets while listening to Sirius/XM through the AUX port on the HK stereo. I purchased the HD Navigation Interface Module, the Zumo 665 and the Zumo inner fairing mount kit and everything works just fine for me both through the speakers and with my Sena bluetooth headset.
I am wondering if folks are trying to do this without installing the NIM from HD and that could be leading to some problems.
It did take me a while to figure it out, though to get everything working right. After some tinkering around, I found out I had my audio cables connected incorrectly to the Y audio cable that comes with the NIM and I had my speaker switch on the dash in the wrong position. It was in the middle position, which if I remember correctly is only speakers with no intercom function (will have to take another look at the owner's manual). Anyway, when I put the speaker switch in the third position and the speaker icon showed up on the HK stereo screen, everything worked just fine.
Got pretty lucky that it all worked out like I needed it to without having to spend another 400 bucks or so on the dedicated XM add on module for the stereo. I tell you what though...this was one expensive job on its own. I was able to stay under a thousand for everything (including the hidden AM/FM/WB antenna since i had the outer fairing off) with a 20% discount.
