Bluetooth Cell Calls with Half Helmet
#21
Scala rider works great with a full face and half helmet. I have and use both. There's a different mic boom for the half helmet. I am very picky about where/when I decide to answer a call, 95% of the time I don't answer it. If safety is even slightly questionable, I don't answer. I can call back after I pull over. That's what voice mail is for. Having said that, the few times I have used it with either the full or half helmet, it has worked very well, I can hear them and they can hear me clearly. We have the G4 and are very happy with the sets and the features, the G9 is the latest version.

For the OP
I also stay away from calls on the road but, I do have a great unit for those calls I deem appropiate to answer right away.
My review for this product is partially biased since I own one, but I have no interest or financial ties to the company.

By far the best I have tried. They also have a unit now that is for half helmets.
The user experience is superb I always ask whoever is on the other side of the line how well or bad they can hear me or if they can hear the bike or the wind. I also have a SG with the short windshield so we can relate.
I also tried once an elcheapo headset for MP3 but surprisingly it had a mic in it. This is a very cheap version and I think it is more suitable for what you are looking for. Simply for it is cheap and you only want it for the home work commute.

I bought mine for like 40 bucks so you can find them cheap.
I hope you find what works best.
I liked the sena better for it is very easy to let go of the left hand and touch the sena unit and it is answering the call. Also if you need to call someone you can also just say the name of the person as it is save on your phone and it calls it for you.

I have the Sena SMH-10. Get the clamp with the boom mic as an accessory. Don't remember the part number, but you can connect a pair of earbud headphones directly into it. A buddy and I took a trip to Florida and used these things all day every day with our half helmets to communicate and take the occasional phone call. They were great and the battery was lasted all day long. Easy to hear with the earbuds even at highway speeds.

I have Scala G9.
I have a half helmet with a 9.5 inch windshield. Boom mic.
I got my first telephone call this weekend. I was doing 75 mph in Pa and I had to cup the boom mic to my lips for my worker to hear me at that speed. I could hear him fine from the office via the ear speakers in my helmet. I have loud pipes so that didn't help.
IMO short of slowing down to 50 mph it's tough to have a conversation at those speeds but I did understand him and he understood me.

Bluetooth Cell Calls with Half Helmet
I agree with "Android".
I love my Sena SMH10's. I have Full-face, modular and 3/4 helmets in my stack. Works great with all.
With the full face my better half says she can't even tell I am on the bike.
I have not tried Sena's new half-helmet setup, but with the quality of what I have used I would not be afraid to try it.
Keep the rubber side down

They actually have a new product that you can use WITHOUT the GPS now. Thinking of trying it, but waiting for someone else to give a review first.
If you have a bluetooth enabled garmin (Like the 550 or 660) http://www.hdbomm.com/ has a unit that will let you talk using your boom mike and stereo speakers or headset

To add to my earlier post on my uclear 100 I actually have only gotten 3 calls in the year I have owned it now I think about it. I think there is a way to call out too but I dont know how if so. fwtw
The last one and probably the best test for the unit so far (it impressed me) was last wknd my wife calls me as I am accelerating up the on ramp to get on the interstate and the wind was literately howling @ 40-45 mph not the best time to take a call I know but I did anyway traffic was light luckily.
I asked her later once I got home if she heard any background. The wind was blowing like nuts and my pipes are pretty loud and I was gettin on it and she said no I sounded distant was all.
