Default 2005 Glide - can I put an 06 or newer radio in?

I bought my bike in 2005 (Electra Glide Standard - FLHTI). One of the first things I did was put in a Sony deck and the Biketronics kit. It's worked like a charm, but I think the deck is finally on it's way out (not bad when you think about it, wasn't the marine version and handled vibration for 8 years!)

I have started looking around. At one point I've debated one of the newer HD/Harmon Karmon receivers, but the HD page and other places I've looked say 2006 and newer bikes only?!? Is that true?

That said, if I can't use one of the newer receivers in my bike, can I get some suggestions for some cheaper options? The Hog tunes speakers are perfectly fine, so I just need a receiver that will fit and also work with the handlebar controls.

Thanks in advance!

You could install an HK unit if you want, but a better choice would be a compatible aftermarket unit unless you want to add CB or intercom IMO. THE HK would be a simple plug and play--no wiring mods req'd.

Thanks Carl. Even with an older bike? The only reason I was thinking about going to a stock head unit was a) they are made to take the abuse/vibration, and b) most of them do have aux ports. I don't really care about CD's/MP3 CD's at this point, just a place to connect an iPod.

I guess the big question is can I use any of the decks with my original Biketronics kit, or would I need to be a new kit along with a new receiver? I went with a Sony deck because of the easy compatibility with the handlebar controls compared to some of the other brands.

Just call BT or check their website for compatible units with your BT module.

Yes, the HK retrofits to older models, AVC is lost becaus vehicle speed is read differently on the older models.
