Lower Fairings

As far as the engine guard is concerned, check HD's website and check fitment info for the vented and non-vented fairings. IIRC you'll find that fitment is the same for many years indicating no change in the engine guard.
Will the lowers you are considering include glove boxes and mounting hardware?

The early non-vented lowers will fit current bikes. The speaker boxes for the vented lowers will not work with the non-vented lowers. I the the non-vented lowers look better, and if you're just getting them for the glove box storage, and to keep your feet dry, they might work just fine. However, there's no denying the improved functionality of the vented lowers, not to mention the ability to add speakers without having to use fairing factory speaker boxes

Personally, I like the older style. I have put about 150k miles on each type. I ride year round, rain or shine. (just not in snow or ice) in mid-atlantic climate. I don't find the venting as that big of a deal. I DO find the water that drips through the vent on my boots as annoying on the newer model. Eventually, it soaks through...I hate wet feet. My feet were always dry on the old style and I think they blocked the wind in the cold a bit better.
