Question Amp suggestions

Ok , I have a 2008 Annv ultra. I have now completed adding front and rear boom speakers. It sounds good but around 70 mph or more the road noise (interstate) sure gets in the way. So I'm going to Laconia bike week this year again. I know there are quite a few installers at the dealer parking lot of Laconia Harley. I'm not looking to spend a fortune on a amp, I just want a better responding volume system. So should I go with the Harley under tourpak like the CVO's have or check out the after market guys and in your opinion which are the best bang for the buck? I know the HD setup is about 4 bills and i don't know if they can do it there that week or not. I also want it installed while i am there. I plan on being at the rally sat - sat so i want to get it installed early so if there any issues i can go right back. thanks Jeff

You kinda backed yourself into a corner with the Boom! speakers. You're going to need a 2 ohm stable amp that doesn't put a lot of wattage out. I'd probably go with the Hogtunes 4 channel amp if you don't want to replace the speakers again. .

Pioneer is right.

The Boom speakers can't handle too many watts. Your choices are very limited.

I thought the booms could handle like 60 watts each at close to that. I just thought that when i bought them i could find a amp that was like 200 watts or 250. Now that i have been looking i see there aren't many choices. I may be stuck going the harley route after all. I plan on keeping the booms so you guys are correct then about backing into a corner. thanks Jeff

I would suggest this amp then. They may handle 60 watts, but that's peak, not RMS.

Stay away from boom and go all aftermarket! If ya need plug and play look at biketronics. Bang for the buck = good 6.5 coax like polk mm651 in fairing, rear pods and maybe lowers. Mounting an aftermarket amp under the tourpac allows nearly limitless possibilities. Check out the audio section.

well, Here is the situation. I already have the stock HK unit. I just added the booms front and rear within the past year. So this setup stays on the bike since i just bought it. I was to add the amp but need to find one other than the harley boom amp. I was looking at the hogtunes 160 watt amp but don't know if it will work or not. The booms have 4 connectors on the back of the speakers. I assume this is for the tweeters. Also how much can the booms handle in watts anyways i couldn't find out on the install directions. thanks Jeff

I currently have the Boom! speakers. There is no literature on how many watts they are, but just look at the magnet. It's not that big. My friend has the Hogtunes speakers, and they compare to those.

The speakers use 4 wires, but only two come from the head unit. The other two go through a crossover from the main connections and hook to the tweeter so any amp will work as long as it is 2 ohm stable and doesn't overpower them.

Honestly, IMHO, for the money ans ease of installation, you're not going to get any better than the Hogtunes 140 watt amp if you insist on keeping the HD speakers.

thanks. your right about the wires I had a brain lapse again. I just installed the rear booms last month. I just thought well, i can add an amp when ever. I didn't realize that it was going to be so involved. So yes the booms are keepers. It looks like the 160 x 4 (40 per channel) is what i will go with. Hopefully it will add a good punch but not so much to blow out the speakers. I really don't crank it up high anyways but i want it louder on the freeway. I watched the viedo and looks like its plug and play I would need to run the wires to the rear booms would be the longest wires run. So the tweeters and crossover should work the same on the booms and just plug in the 2 main connectors from the hogtunes amp to the booms and it should be good to go.
This would probably be the best bang for my buck without adding too much power to the booms. I would like to find the specs on the wattage though. It is most likely what the Harley amp is that powers the CVO's sinece they are built with this amp. thanks Jeff
