Today I went out riding with a friend that just got a new bike. We rode about 60 miles or so then went back to his house. After 45 minutes to an hour it was time to go. I tried to start the bike and it would fire but wouldn't stay running. I tried giving it gas and it only worked once out of the 10 times i tried it. Before this happened there were no problems. When I crank it up in the morning when leaving work it takes a bit to start it, but I never thought much of it since it sits outside all night in the cold. bikes a 98 road king with the magnetti marelli fuel injection. I checked to see if it flashed any codes and there were none. Any pointer out there on what to look for?

 

Is there gas in the tank?

anyone have any ideas. I've been doing my research and have a few ideas of what to look for, but I'm hoping someone can narrow it down for me.

 

Also the when I let off the throttle the lights dim a bit which makes me think its a stator or rectifier. I had a rectifier go on my Old metric but the bike didn't die right away it would run but I would have to stay on the throttle so it wouldn't die. I'm going to check the fuel first and then I'm going to Shoot wires for the stater and rectifier.

 

Sounds like your stator to me. Mine went a little while ago, showing similar symptoms. It would cut out, start but not continue running, lights dimming etc. It also wrecked the battery as it wasnt throwing out a sufficient charge.
