RE: 2003 Road King 100th Ann. Edition
I think the time of year, location, and news of new options drastically affects the value. Like in 07 you get the 95 upgrade and 6sp with improvements in the tuning -- $3000 + of addons to an 06. 07 is probably the better year to buy new in the RK line.
In our area of Florida the local jap sportbikes bring more money on resale because most of the dealerships were swallowed up by one dealer and they charge over-list. I bought a Yam R1 for list (new in Iowa), rode it 5,000 miles, brought it home to FL and sold it for list 6 months later in the winter here -- back in iowa it was worth 4,000 less. Winter is peak resale time here (I think). I've only owned 14 bikes and 65 cars so my experience is not quite as good as a used car dealer.
Local HD dealers charge at list -- and people put alot of miles on riding 12 months so the resale on HD is flat, but not bad. I couldn't find any good used bikes locally -- my buddy bought his used RK in December from WI, got a great deal on a LOW mile bike and is still head above water. I've seen bikes for sale in Melbourne with 100-185K miles on them. They are year-round transportation, and still cheaper than driving in the metal cage with hubcaps.
