Default Frenched style visor trim ring passing lamp instal

I have just installed the "Frenched"style trin ring on the passing lamp. I could not get the lamp into the ring with the weatherstrip that is provided. So after looking at it and some deep thought...I removed the weatherstrip and it went on flawless. Am I missing something by leaving out the weather strip ? I compared it to the original ring and there is no strip on it. If strip needs to be there, what is the trick? Thankyou
BTW=I did the search and did not find anything directly relating to this.

I don't remember much about the install other than it being a pain in the... I was able to use the provided weather strip but not without a lot of hassle... I may have used a bar clamp to hold everything together while tightening the hardware...

It was a tight fit but doable. I would think without the foam strip that the lamp would be loose in the housing. I had to push pretty hard to be able to sandwich everything together enough to tighten the visor on the housing.

Just spray the w/strip with WD 40 and put the top in first at the split and then pop the bulb in the rest of the way.
