Default Road King & Air Forks, I'm Confused

04 Road King Classic.

I thought air forks only came on the heavier touring models. While reading around about what would be involved with installing them or making mine air assist, I can across numerous threads of people with Road Kings describing their air assist front forks.

Did they actually all come that way, or was it an option or limited to certain years or something? Now I'm wondering if mine should have them, and the previous owner removed it. Which means I have to figure out how to see if there are cut off tubes somewhere or such.

I'm confused, did Road Kings actually come with air assist front forks?

Earlier RKs did, yes, all the Touring range had them, while they were stock. Air forks were introduced at the same time as air shocks way back when the Ark was being built. While the shocks were continued, the forks got dropped around 2000, possibly on introduction of the TC88s.

Yes they had them and it made changing fork oil a breeze. Just hook up a hand vac pump to the air fitting with the Schrader valve removed and suck in the oil through the drain plug holes. No mess and quick.

My 1991 FLHS had an air reservoir in the handlebars.
