Well it happened to me last night in Palmdale, CA. Bags and side covers stolen from my 2012 Ultra Limited. What really kills me is that I have had the secure saddlebag kit for about 4 months and was too lazy to take a few minutes to install the bolts. If you have been putting off making the change, don't wait. Also, in addition to the bags I lost my leathers, first aid kit and other clothing. At least Geico is covering the bags and side covers for me, but still out the $500 deductible and replacement costs for leathers.

what a drag.

OP how about some details, where was the bike parked, locked? alarmed?

description of the stuff stolen?

I can watch my local PHX craigslist.

I, and most of Us I think, grew up in an age where touching a bike was gonna get your *** whipped.
But you really have to watch your stuff.
One of my Pals had all his tbags stolen at a gas stop...he went inside for a soda, someone cut the straps and threw his bags into a pickup
( I use a cable lock on mine...just enough to slow them down)

for those worried about their own bags, go to Home Depot and get this replacement hardware:

4 x Crown Bolt #43228 speed nut (SMS type U 5/16-18 thread )

4 x Crown Bolt #66808 wing bolt ( 5/16-18 thread X 1" )

a couple of rubber fender washers too, or reuse the stock ones

this will give you 4 "wing bolts" which can be easily turned out by hand when you want to remove the bags- of course the bag has to be opened to do that.

an additional "fix" is to replace the bolt holding the front bag mount from a hex head to a "dome" type or allen...a fastener which cannot easily be turned from the side.

total cost will be about $12

or you can buy hardware kits online

Has anyone seen a system that is basically a pad lock and a machined shaft?

When you get your stuff replaced, buy a big holster & strap it to the side of your bike. Sounds silly, but it just might work.

I just can't help but think some one who knows about Harleys is the Thief.
How to get them off...what there worth and will know where to sell them.
That sucks... Insurance helps but the Hassle and the Deductible just sucks.
Thanks for the reminder..I have the security kit on the bench...just haven't put it on yet!

Took the side covers... Those are bolted on and take time to get off on my ride. Some one DID know what they needed and how to get it.

Check your home owners for personal property coverage. Maybe the deductible is a little less and you can recover without a big loss.

We sure have become a nation of thieves, thugs and gangsters.

BTW, on your taxes you can claim losses like this.

What is a good way to secure the hard leather bags, such as on the Road King Classic and Road King Custom?

Those bags are secured the same as the hard bags, so use the same security bolts.
