Default Stereo upgrade Ultra Classic - including saddle bag speakers

I am looking to upgrade my 2008 Ultra Classic stereo. I would like to make my tour pak removable but still want the extra speakers when it is off. My thought is to relocate them to the saddle bag lid, or the lowers. Has anyone done this? What are ideas for my best options?
thanks

I suggest you take a look in the Tech section of this forum under Audio. Lots of great info there. Many of us are now running the SoundStream 4.520D amp with great results. Some, not all, have reported FM reception problems with the SoundStream amp, but other than that it really pumps out some great sound. I have it running six Polk Audio speakers (4 DXi650 and 2 DXi690) fairing, lowers and saddlebag lids.

Unless you are willing to install an amp, there is no point in doing lid or lowers speakers IMO.

Some vendor websites you should visit are in no order of preference are Hogtunes, J&M, Hawg-Wired, and check-out the audio forum as suggested. Many here have come up with our own lid and lower solutions.

Good luck with your choices.

I'm only limited by how much space the ol will give up in the saddle bags.

Space in the saddlebag will not be affected much, if at all, by adding a set of speaker lids, You can go with the 5x7's that HD offers already painted to your color and use a set of JL Audio 570 C5's and then upgrade the fairing speakers to a set of 650 C5's and as Harleypingman said you will need an amp and that can be placed in the fairing. I just did a decent set up using all JL stuff, the C5's are their higher end, speakers are $500 a pair but you can go with C2's which are about $170/pr and still are a great improvement over stock. I did the lower fairings if you want some pics search my recent thread

400 watt JL amp will be more than enough to power saddlebag or lowers and fairing speakers

On my 2012 SG I upgraded the fairing speakers and added lower fairing speakers and the fairing mounted tweeters with 2 amps in the fairing using Hog Tunes products. Total 6 speakers up front. Great sound at any speed.

Then I went further and added the J&M lid speaker kit and in my detachable Tour PAC I have 2 J&M speakers. So all together with the Tour PAC there are 10 speakers on my bike and 8 without the Tour PAC. Sounds great at any speed.

The only thing I may have done differently was to choose an amp with more sound adjustment ability after examining the amp that J&M offers and I am sure there are others. Just do your homework before you start your project. I got a lot of technical support from both companies. All it took was some concentration, some imagination and a little heart to indulge. That was part of my winter project. All's well that ends well. Good luck.

Not sure of your budget and like GlacierPearl said above - $ky is the limit!

Check out the Cycle Sounds lids. Fit 6x9's vs the CVO 5x7 lids (and CVO cost). Need paint so factor that in. Definitely need an amp to push them enough to justify the cost. Amps are pretty inexpensive in the scheme of things. On the positive side - being top forward section of the saddlebag - should take up very little space!

Speakers for those CS lids - MM691's are supposed to be excellent. Pioneer has a couple that have better low-end, but aren't officially "marine". CS Lids have a water membrane that's supposed to help, but i am going with the BT/HAT BT479 6x9's for mine. My lids just arrived yesterday eve and need to get them to paint shop this week!

Best option might be to upgrade your batwing and lower speakers w/ a good amp behind them. Inexpensive options would be SS or RF Amp and MM651's (6.5"). BT has their Titan II 6.5's and new 7.1 (batwing only - ultra lowers won't fit the 7.1").

Definitely check out the Audio subforum under tech. Look at UltraNutZ and GlacierPearl's posts - lots of great options depending on your budget!
