The website advertises that the chamber area has been "refitted". Does that simply mean that that cat has been gutted?

"Powerflex". Ah, marketing. You'd have to ask them but I wouldnt be surprised, their business model on mufflers is gutting the baffles and reselling

I have personally heard their "reworked" mufflers on a 11 SG. They sounded pretty darn good. The benefit I can see about having the gutted mufflers is that they weld in a fixed baffle in which you can quickly insert quieter baffles if the need arises.

Yep, I agree - I almost went that way, then decided it was too inexpensive and went with Kury Crushers.

Wow, I just read my last post. That was some awesome grammar. I am not familiar with the Kury Crushers, are they modular like the American Custom?

AC are not allowed to say or mention gutted headers(epa), so they use the term refitted. So yes its just gutted and welded back together.Just do it yourself and save some cash for future mods.

those mufflers are really good ones, and are not thought about when people buy. its a shame because they are the complete package, sound great perform very well, and are very well made. good choice on those

They are slipon mufflers, will fit on any 2-1-2 or true dual headers.

I have the Tridents: http://www.kuryakyn.com/products/1989/crusher-mufflers

Here they are on my bike:
