Had a Road King classic up til last week wanted a Road Glide for the farring,Hard bags and tunes didn't want a Street Glide because everyone has one. So after weeks of demos on the road glide I traded in the Classic.....on a Road King Custom I got my hard bags,Use my ipod(earplugs) on long rides and keep the Bike I really loved in the first place and with the $$$ I saved by not buying the Glide I got New Rims and one of the Limited paint jobs from Harley (Smokey Gold) plus a solo seat since the wife doesn't ride much. Pick it up soon but gotta wait for the new paint to come it but at least I'll get a few miles on it while I wait. It's called the King for a Reason...
My SG is my first tourer, and I do love it. I wish I would have at least test ridden a King when I was shopping. They didn't appeal to me all that much then, but I really do like them now. I think I could do without the radio and fairing. I love the look of a king with a nice set of apes.
The Road King Classic, the Heritage Softail Classic and Deluxe look like motorcycles from another time when they weren't draped in plastic. That's exactly why some of us prefer them over the HDs that look like Goldwings.
I had a Deluxe before I bought my Road Glide. I too love the retro look of the Road King , Heritage and Deluxe. I also love the comfort of my Roadie, as well as the improved handling. In a perfect world, I would have kept my Deluxe AND gotten the Road Glide! Maybe the Road King is the perfect combination of the two.
The Road King is the AR15 of motorcycles......nice.

Thought about a Street Glide before buying my King, but one demo ride made me decide I didn't like the fairing, to me the best sight in the world is traveling along a great road and glancing down and seeing the big chrome headlight leading the way..... priceless

You made the right move. To me, fairings are way over rated and in my opinion ugly. I have a fairing and only use it for long touring where tunes are required (hours of boring riding in most directions from the Twin Cities). When riding scenic areas, or on somewhat technical roads the tunes are off anyway.
