The batteries are only a few bucks, but I've never had one go out on me, even after a few years. I carry the cheat sheet (the card from the owners manual)in my wallet, and the code in my head. I'm not worried if the battery fails.

I change the batteries on January 1st every year, and alway keep two fresh batteries in the saddlebag. I have already saved a couple guys some grief by keeping the spare batteries with me.

If you have a Droid download the V-Twin app, it has the directions for the security override function.

Another cool thing the V-Twin app has is the "Where Am I" program, it will give you the latitude/longitude, the address, the altitude and link you to a gps map of you location.

The FOB's use the same size batteries that are in computers. I work in IT, so when I get a computer that is dead I pop the battery out and keep them in a ziplock bag as backups in my saddlebag.

For those that have harley digital dipsticks...they are powered by the same battery.

I'm a little **** about trip prep;

- 1) I change the batteries in both fobs before the first ride of the year and both my wife and I carry a fob.
- 2) I carry two fresh spares in my tool kit
- 3) I have the owner's manual in the tour pak and the wallet card in my wallet
- 4) I put the code in my Blackberry address book under a fake name that I will remember.

....I think I'm good! :-)

Even though mine's just a few months old, I've started carrying a spare with me. I don't want to be caught dead in the water.

It'd suck if my fob died and my spare was DOA too!
