Default How much will your does your MPG suffer by mods?

Curious to know for those that have extensively modded their bikes, such as Headwork, Big Bore kits 107, new cams, etc etc on their 103 engine what did you notice on your mpg's?

I know that when you increase the compression, more fuel is being used. Don't know the specific when it comes to extensive motor work. Cam work alone will not cause you suffer much loss in MPG's? or whatever you do, matters?

With fuel prices nowadays, every angle has to be explored~

I added true duals, SE203 cams, SERT, SE air cleaner. Went from 48mpg to 35. But it runs. I've considered a different tuner to increase mpg, but it would take a lot of miles to breakeven on the cost. I'm about finish playing with this toy and will probably get another bike before long.

It's not so much the mods as it is how much you twist the throttle.

A properly modded bike should have more power and get better MPG than a stock one.

The drop that most see is either from playing with the extra power, or from badly matched upgrades/inefficient tune.

They come from the factory tuned for emissions, this is not the same as being tuned for the best MPG.

You hit it exactly. Before my mods I was happy to ride the bike. Now I DRIVE it. Seldom less than half throttle and always twisting the throttle harder. It sounds and drives so much better you can't let off. Oh... Mileage went from low 40's to 36-40 tops. Well worth it.

I know someone that built a 120 before the harley one came out , and he got 54mpg on a ride we went on. It is all in the tune!

+1 on that. If a mod kills your MPG it's a sign that the tune is out of whack.

I can use more gas because my bike runs better but in general it gets more mileage now as 6th gear is more usable.
