these wrenches are nice because you don't have to take the muffler off to get them on the nut and axle head...

In 2010, Harley loosened up the specs on belt tension a bit. For street glides it is 1/4" to 7/16" and for all other touring models it is 3/8" to 9/16". That is taken cold with no load (luggage, rider, etc.) on the frame on the jiffy stand. I just had a rear tire replaced and I checked what the dealer set my tension at - at about 8/16" (1/2") under a 10 lb. push.

I have a 2001 FLHTC, how long to belts last? I inspected it often and I see no damage. There is a little wear on the side butt that's about it.

I haven't messed with my rear wheel yet. But, wouldn't you have to pay attention to belt alignment as well?

My belt went until last fall and broke because the swingarm had cracked on the pulley side, essentially over stretching the belt. Fortunately it was at work, where we had a welder for the swingarm and I carried a spare "emergency" belt too. That made it 13 years old and as I said earlier, 119,600 miles.

No complaints here. I replaced it with a carbon fiber 1 1/2" Falcon SPC which I believe will last until I'm dead ( and maybe even later.)
