Default alturitives to leather chaps

I am wondering what if anything there is in place of leather chaps for cold weather and protection.

Nothing. They are easy to take on and off, unlike leather pants. You can pee without taking them off. If I couldn't use them I would go for textile overpants.

Under Armor Cold Gear, under your favorite pair of jeans.

Long johns. Another option is flannel lined jeans and long handles.

Long johns or when it's really cold long johns & chaps. If you're the kind that is afraid of being called a pirate then wear a snowmobile suit.

I have some quilted wrap chaps from www.kneenecks.com.
With these, the only thing left to keep warm is the hands and face.

I finally bought chaps this past winter and I wish I would have done it earlier. Nothing better. I will get heated pants for the really cold days, but the chaps are probably more versatile and easier to get on and off. Try out the chaps, you may like them.
