Default 2012 Ultra Limited Charging issues

Ok, here's the deal; Bought a new 2012 Ultra Limited the end of March last year. After a couple weeks the bad regulator bug bit and it was replaced. Since then though, the bike has been into the shop four other times with the same symptoms.

When cold, gauges and my meter show normal charging, after running for a while and getting everything good and warm, say 50-100 miles the gauge shows no charge at idle, idiot light comes on, headlight/driving lights dim, get back to speed limit and idiot light goes out, gauge shows normal charge. Cart the bike to the dealer, they check it, replace the regulator and it's fine for a few thousand miles, rinse and repeat.

Three different dealers have tried a total of five times to correct, and last night it started again, less than three weeks after the last incident. Bike currently has right at 14k miles on the clock. No mods other than new headers/exhaust and TTS tuner.

Starting to get a bit frustrated, any ideas? Thoughts?

Check into your states lemon law. My son has had his 2012 FLTRU in the shop to replace
the regulator three times, it seems to be an on going problem.

Georgia's lemon law doesn't apply to cycles

To help out this forum so we can help you. Post what the 3 dealers did to try to resolve the problem.

All three ran 'diagnostics' and replaced the voltage regulator.

Short of an intermittent bad connection (certainly a possibility), the logic would suggest the problem lies with the alternator, regulator or battery. If the dealer has replaced the regulator once or twice already, I'd test and/or replace the battery and the alternator.

Good luck,

Starting to get frustrated? You have a lot more patience than I do. I guarantee you that POS wouldn't be in my garage any more. One way or the other it would be history.
