I would at least look at the Contour Roam.I have one and even though I can't compare it to the GOPRO because I've never had one,I really like it.It takes excellent videos and is easy to use.It can be mounted in almost any position with the adjustable lense and several mounts are avaliable for it.It does have to be linked to the computer to view or make any adjustments but it's simple to do.

Check out the Drift HD 1080p - $199 which is cheaper then the GoPro but has more features. Here is a list of the features: rotating lens in case you have to mount camera at odd angles; lcd screen to see your video lets you know your shot is set-up correctly and can watch playback; remote control to start and stop the recording; For a few extra bucks I bought an LCD light on a long chord that plugs into the camera and mounts to my handlebar to let me know that the camera is on and then it goes even brighter to let me know it is in fact recording. Anyways - check youtube for many side by side comparison videos of the 3 most common cameras listed here.

The camera down the side of the bike is a GoPro Hero2, 11meg
The camera on the Speedo/Tach is GoPro HD, 5meg
I use iMovie on my MAC for editing, theres an option in there to do video-in-video. I had to do a google search to figure it out (currently can't remember how). The hardest part was syncing the two videos and this is where the Hollywood of a slap board comes in handy. I didn't have one so I just blasted my horn twice. When editing look for those audio spikes on both audio tracks, sync the video to match, and delete one of the audio tracks and VIOLA!

I use a few different cameras on my summer trips.
For still photos I have a Kodak 12MP waterproof camera that I ram mount to my bars. It fires up quick and the screen lets you know what you are filming.
My riding buddy mounts a GoPro on his helmet for group videos..... You can hear the sound of the bike and it gets a good field of view, the only bad part ( and you can see this in part of the video) is that you can't always tell where it's pointing. So, one of the coolest parts in the trip ended up mostly tank and knees.... either way, see for yourself.

The Cam to go with is MUVI HD,better colors than the go pro.It has a remote that will take either pictures or video and the camera doesnt turn off !
It goes to sleep and when you are ready to use it ,just wake it up by pressing the remote button. The No Proof No Glory model comes with a ton of different mounts and waterproof case.Give it a try,it was the best one out there.

GoPro Hero 3 black edition is the best camera for what you want to do. It has evolved from the hero to the hero 2 to the hero 3 which comes in 3 flavors. The black edition is amazing, it was tested by CNET and other tech mags to be as good if not better than the very best camcorders and point and shoot cameras.

I got a GoPro (1st gen) a few months ago, and I just started taking video of the bike in action. The GoPro has a few different housings that you can use. I made a video a few days ago (not nearly as nice as Dr Tiki's vid), and wind noise was a non-issue. I got up to 85 or so, and it wasn't a big deal at all.
I would've like to get more noise from my pipes, but I had the camera facing forward, mounted on my crash bar.
