Default Re-adjusting an Adjustable Backrest

I just installed an HD adjustable backrest on my '12 Ultra. Installation was kind of a pain but I got through it. Once it was all said and done I put the backrest in it's furthest back position and climbed on. I went for a short ride and couldn't help but think how nice it would be if there was about another 1/2" - 1" of adjustment rearward. So I got to thinking - can I put a slight bend int he bracket that slides into the mount? Has anyone ever given that a try? Please tell me I'm not the only one who would like just a bit more room... Thoughts?

yep, it can be done. it's just a bracket made of mild steel. Unbolt the rear pad from it and get busy fabbing it to make it work for you.

I got the same setup to use on my SG and hated how far up the pad sat off the top of the seat, it did not feel good or give me the lower back support I need.

I took it apart, cut and sectioned the bracket with a bandsaw and mig welded it back together. Looks like it was made for the seat and gives the support I expected it to have.

I'm sure once you get it apart , you'll be able to see how you want to put the bends into it and any adjustments needed to make it work .

I bent mine ..just a few degrees.

Stuck it in a vice heated the legs and bent it

It doesn't take much as it can be to much to quick

I've also put a few washers under the Forward end to "move" the angle.
I had plenty of room under the seat "well" to do it

Forget exactly how the bolts are layed out on the bracket but can ya put a couple washers between the bracket and fender to tilt it back.

I'm not sure if this would work without causing more pressure between the bracket and the underside of the passenger portion of the seat. It's a pretty close fit already. Putting a bit more of a bend in the backrest bracket wouldn't affect the positioning of the mounting base.
