dunlop tire dry rot cracks
#11
I just had the 18" Dunlop replaced on my front under warranty because it had sidewall cracks. I was told I had to pay for the mounting. The tech showed me my front pads were down to almost nothing. Told them go ahead, figured not much extra while the bike was on the rack. They have a new girl writing service. She only charged me for the brake pads ($50 each side) and 1/4 hr labor. Best deal I ever got from this Harley dealer.

Just returned from dealership to get front tire replaced. Noticed cracks in the front tire of my 2012 Streetglide yesterday (with 5,500 miles). Dealer called HD who told them to replace tire under warranty. Tire was replaced at no cost for tire or install. Date code for the tire manufacture was 412.

This Monday I checked the tires on my 2012 street glide after getting home from riding, bike has 2500 miles. I noticed a bunch of small cracks on front tire wall, back tire was ok. Don't know how long that has been like that, had 1000 mile service performed around December 2012 and was not told of any tire problem. Bike is garage kept. Brought the bike to dealer this Wednesday. At first the service writer ( new employee) tells me that it's not covered under warranty. I told him wrong answer. He called HD service tech who informed him that the tire was covered. Got it replaced, no charge for labor. Thank you guy's for bringing light to this tire problem. I will be keeping a closer eye on those tires from now on.

Mine (on a 2011 Street Glide) was replaced last August under warranty, but the Dunlop documentation the dealer had regarding Dunlop's replacement policy prescribed wear to be pro-rated into whatever the cost would be. Less than half wear, Dunlop pays full freight, less than 50% tread life left, you paid for some of the tire cost. Since my tire had over 50% wear per the tread-depth gauge, I had to pay half the tire cost (stock dealer pricing, though) and Dunlop covered the installation. So I got mine for a little over $100 installed.
I did, however, replace the Dunlops with Avons this spring (just after the warranty on the bike ran out)- so now I have a D407 sitting here with about 1200 miles on it. I figure if I need it in a pinch, I'll have a tire around to keep me on the road with minimal down-time. I hope I never need to swap it on temporarily due to a nail or something, but it would cut down my out of service time waiting for a new Avon to be shipped to me, and a front tire is an easy swap- $30 and a little time- done.
