Default Power in the Tour Pack

I have a 2011 Ultra Classic and yesterday I was looking for a place to put a 12v cig lighter in the tour pack for charging phones & such. I removed the liner to check wiring & notice a small black terminal poking from the wiring harness, with nothing attached to it. Not wanting to cut the wires on the lighter plug, I used the wires from my led accent lights I am also going to install and slid them into the holes on the terminal. Hit the remote for the lights & voila, they worked, but only with the ignition on or in acc mode. My question is, has anyone used this to run a power plug, or will the plug draw too much power & short circuit the fuse.

I tapped into the running lights power inside my tour pack for an added cigarette lighter port, use it for charging a cell phone. Works good!

I cut the wires to make the lighter socket a pigtail that rests in the map pouch.

Dammit; my first reply got deleted somehow. Anyhow, part number 91823-10 is the part number for the tour pak accessory power plug which (IIRC) is intended to plug into the tour pak lighting harness.....therefore you should be fine.

There's a nice write up on roadglide.org about how to do this. It is plug and play and you do use that little pigtail that's already in there. The hardest part of the job is notching the liner for the jack. I just did this last weekend on my RGU and it was a piece of cake..

Suggestion: copy and paste the link here. I'ce done this from other forums here without any problem from HDF. Alternatively, take a few minutes and post how you did it.
